Retail display and showcase lighting

A showcase needs light that presents the merchandise clearly. Compare samples on real products and inspect reflections in the glass from the customer’s viewing positions.

INSTALLATION

Viewing angles and glass reflections

Glass, mirrored surfaces and polished merchandise can reflect the source. Source position, diffuser choice and display height should be considered from the expected viewing angles.

Top-edge lighting

Check source concealment, reflections in the front glass and product coverage.

Shelf-integrated lighting

Evaluate each shelf with the merchandise and any labels or supports in place.

Linear accents

Separate decorative outlines from the light needed to illuminate the product itself.

Questions for this installation

How do I choose the light colour for merchandise?

Compare samples on the real merchandise and alongside the shop’s other lighting. Decide from the intended presentation rather than a universal colour-temperature rule.

Why do reflections matter?

A visible reflected source can distract from the product even if the direct lighting appears satisfactory. Check both the glass and the merchandise.
